Star Wars Commander: Bubbakills Succeeds!

This past couple of weeks gave our Star Wars Commander squad a fairly secure position in the Top 50. With 430,000 (est) medals between our 29 (limit is 30) players, we are holding strong in Top 40. Our highest position in Top 50 Worldwide is (or was as of yesterday) number 39.

This is a trivial thing in the grand scheme of things, but is proof that a group of strangers can grow something from literally nothing. A year-and-a-half ago I became leader of a dead squad when our leader quit. I was fortunate that mhahse57 could meet Lord Viper and leah, who became the vanguard of our team. Both now have about 50,000 medals and climbing and their loyalty to the team is inspiring as much as it is astounding. We started only a few thousand medals apart, but they have outplayed me greatly. My medals have finally reached 22,000 as of this past week, but I am setting the tone for other members by promising 1,000 a week for the immediate future.

And that is the concern. Sitting in Top 50 places demands that a team performs better than ever before. Top 50 teams become medal driven and it is only by having built much trust among us that we can maintain the momentum. We figure, if other teams just below us (Top 60s) surpass our medals count through gaining power players, that is OK and we are kind of expecting that as many of them have 4 or 5 openings in their squads.

The merger with another strong but trapped group of players is what gave us our success in this. The amazing leah, our top negotiator, convinced them to abandon their absent leader and join us. The combination of medals put us strongly into position 43 or so. To have surpassed a couple groups just by our players feeling the excitement and thrill of being Top 50 has helped us gain needed medals to surpass a couple and rise a bit higher.

Each level we rise increases our security in the Top 50 but nothing is guaranteed. The heightened energy may wane, and the grind may well tire us out. This is a concern but also an opportunity to move into the next level of being a team, and it will start with me becoming more transparent. Transparency can be risky. People are not, once known, to be what others, in a game of strangers, imagined. Many use the false face, and invent themselves as more ideal than they feel they really are. In the end, we are all human. Once we know one another as a team, it is probably OK to allow ourselves more visibility.

This is the time when social networking begins to play a large role in our relationships. We are now opening up our Twitter and Facebook accounts and seeing each other as the humans behind our gaming facades. It is a positive thing and may well help us remain cohesive. It is a product of being genuine from the start. Me, I am who I say I am; a grandma who tutors English at a local college and loves to game. Building trust as gamers has brought us some success in Star Wars Commander. Other Top 50 teams probably respect us because we accomplished what we said we would accomplish. That too is a product of being genuine and is proof that a group of random strangers from around the world can work together to reach a common goal.

Happy Gaming!

Star Wars: Commander –bubbakills rises

This past week, my Star Wars: Commander team (Squad Name: bubbakills) made a move to push into the Top 50 worldwide for good and all.

I joined Star Wars Commander in December, 2014. It is a mobile game that works on the Android/IOS platform and the Windows Mobile/Windows 10 platform. I joined on Windows and chose Rebel as my faction. I joined a squad, bubbakills, and had fun hanging with the team and learning the game. One of my buds mentioned he also played Empire on IOS and suggested I might like to see the game from the “dark side”.

I started an Imperial base on my droid and joined his squad, because as he said he “lowered the medals requirement just for me to join.”  I played there for a few months and liked the fact that the squad was much more active than my lame Rebel game. I was an officer in ‘Bubbakills’ and was soon an officer in the Android game as well. I earned around 8k medals as an ‘Imp’. My focus was with that team, but I kept feeling like my real home was Rebel on Windows. Besides. The truth is, old grandma, mhanse, could see the screen on her computer much better than the screen on her android.  I moved back to the Windows Rebel game and saw that many players had quit and the squad was pretty much dead. Just me and a few inactives.

And I, with 5,000 medals was now Leader…

What to do, I asked. Quit? Should I find another squad that might take me, or take up the mantel and find out what I could do with my own squad?

I chose to stay and see it through. I had some good players with me who seemed pretty good. I was joined by the wonderful Lord Viper, with 8,000 medals so we were poised to grow. I posted an ad. Lost a few players who either left or stopped playing, and gained some new players.

The extraordinary moment was when we added the amazing Leah (with his thousands of medals) to our team. We soon rose from #10,000 or worse to being number 85 worldwide just by recruiting some good players! We suddenly had a lot of momentum and being in the Top 100 is a very cool thing! We started a push to medal 700 or 1000 per week and keep the momentum going. And to a point it worked. We would lose a player, post and ad, and gain fresh blood. Then above all imagining:

We were number 56 worldwide.

This past year has seen a lot of team building and growth with the help of my top officers, named above, and some fantastic players who supported our goals and added to the camaraderie of our team.  We have experienced many joys and in at least two cases, really sorrowful moments with players who are no longer with our squad.  Being in the Top 60 on Windows in a game with over 20 million players gets us some notoriety. We have been scouted and wooed by Top 50 squads to become a support squad for their rise in the upper ranks of the game.

At this time: We have entered a very aggressive phase where we have the excellent Red5 heading up an allied squad he started called Red-2. Leah, who is currently our top player with nearly 50,000 medals, is going “walkabout” among inactive squads recruiting them to join BBkillas (bubbakills’s cool nickname). Leah is keeping Red’s Squad Center full for his defenses and roving from there. When Leah comes home to bubbakills with his medals we jump two ranks to number 56.

We historically have hovered between 52 and 55, so we can see that ours is not the only squad driving hard to score high medals for the team. We have around 400k medals as a squad but the top squads are pushing to 2 million. We have a long road and stiff competition, but I believe we have the chops to succeed. We will make Top 50 squads in Star Wars Commander. And we will make certain that we stay there .

Happy Gaming, Everyone!
